Ever since the hoverboard craze took effect, my family and I have owned quite a number of hoverboards. I mean, who wouldn’t want to look “cool” and in touch with the latest trend? However, the first two hoverboards were pretty “crap” for lack of a better word. Not only were they slow, a bit noisy and a little unbalanced, but also broke down within 3 months.

List of Top 10 Best Cheap Hoverboards under $250 in 2018
#10. Hoverboard Self Balance Scooter 2 Wheels
This was my second hoverboard, and compared to the earlier one, it was much better. It offered better balance, ran smoother and quieter, and was easy to control. I also found the white color more classy and unique. It felt pretty solid when ridden even on rough surfaces and the vibrations were minimal. This made the ride more comfortable and rewarding. I also liked its decent size that kept me comfortable.

My hubby bought this self-balancing scooter after smashing the first one in anger. I mean, it took so long to recharge yet the battery couldn’t last for more than 30 minutes or cover a distance of 5 kilometers. I lost count on the number of times he came back home carrying the board instead of being carried by the board. His next choice was much better in all areas. It was more stable and balanced, wasn’t as heavy, charged relatively fast, and the battery lasted for more than 2 hours even under extreme use. It also looked cooler thanks to the Green Leaf color.
#8. Hoverboard Two-wheel Self-balancing Scooter-VEEKO
When buying our first scooters, we thought that our first son was making a wrong decision when settling for the VEEKO LH-C hoverboard. Firstly, it was, much cheaper than our choices. Secondly, it felt a little lighter. Thirdly, it was a bit too colorful. However, several months down the lane, he still enjoys riding on it. It has never broken down, the rise is very smooth and silent, and the built-in battery keeps a charge for a longer time. The coverage/range per charge is also impressive.
#7. Spadger Self Balancing Scooter Hoverboard with Bluetooth
Just like my son, my daughter also made a good choice right from the start. (Hmmmmm….a bit embarrassing for us, the parents, who are supposed to be wiser). Anyway, this hoverboard has lasted nearly a year and is still in great shape. It rides like a champion and the battery retains it charge for several hours. It has good torque for tackling the hilly section while the sturdy deck provides good support. I also love the fairly large wheels that maintain a firm grip on different surfaces while minimizing the road vibrations and shock.
#6. Hoverboard Two-Wheel with Bluetooth Speaker and LED Light
Personally, I have never ridden the two-wheel self-balancing scooter by Hoverheart, but my husband has. He praises its solid construction that is able to support his large weight (blame it on the beer gut). He also says that it’s moderately fast yet it emits minimal noise. The hoverboard comes with good wheels that have a firm grip on different surfaces including wet ones. Other reasons he likes this accessory is that it’s affordable despite the high quality and the cool looking Chrome Rainbow color.
#5. Hoverboard Two-wheel Self-balancing Scooter-VEEKO
My neighbor purchased this self-balancing electric scooter about 6 months ago. And just like her, I couldn’t agree more that it’s worth the time, effort and money. It looks and feels very solid, comes with high-quality wheels, and is very well-balanced. The accessory is very responsive and covers a larger area before needing a recharge. It also doesn’t disappoint when it comes to speed or tackling the hills and inclines.
#4. UL2272 Hoverboard with Bluetooth Speaker and LED Lights
This Chrome Rose Gold colored hoverboard is quite colorful and vibrant. In fact, many people are first drawn to it due to its sleek, stylish and colorfulness. It also receives positive comments in regard to high quality, simple to use, and sharp response. It has a good ability to go up inclines/hills and maintains a charge for a longer time than most options in the market. The Self-balancing scooter is also liked for its lightweight and compact design that makes carrying and storage convenient.
#3. VEEKO Self Balancing Hoverboard with LED Indicator Lights
John, my son, had an experience with the VEEKO self-balancing electric scooter a few months ago. And according to him, this hoverboard is as good as people claim. It’s made from quality ABS that offer good support while the good-balance improves stability. It also has a decent size and weight capacity to accommodate a range of users. Like other top types, it offers sharp response while the nonskid tires maintain a firm contact with the surface.

Tim, my husband, has been talking about upgrading to a bigger self-balancing electric scooter. The current one has started to show some signs of aging as he says (but I silently think he wants to keep up with his buddies).
He is eyeing the OTTO Hoverboard, which I rode at some event a month ago. To tell you the truth, it is one of the sturdiest and well-balanced hoverboards I have ever ridden. It maintains a smooth ride on asphalt, dirt, concrete and also on grass. The unit was quite responsive and comes with extra safety features.
#1. GOTRAX Hoverfly Hoverboard
My current hoverboard although functional lags behind when it comes to speed. I also want to upgrade to something trendier. After a bit of researching here and there and talking to hoverboarding enthusiast and experts, I’ve finally settled for the GOTRAX Hoverfly. It gets very good revs for sturdy construction, durability, long range, good balance, and support. I also like its trendy Nebula Black color.
Riding a hoverboard is not only trendy but also a fun experience. You get to go places without worrying about traffic jams, and also have a better appreciation of the surrounding without using lots of effort. Nonetheless, not every hoverboard will provide the desired service. Some may be too slow or too noisy. Others may not offer the desired comfort and may feel a bit unbalanced. It’s also possible to own a board that will breakdown within the first months of purchase.

My opinion is based on the experiences my family, friends and I have had when using different items.
